Pet Sitter Illinois

We don’t have to worry about finding great local produce even in the winter while Vicki Westerhoff of Genesis Growers is around! In addition to growing wonderful roots like carrots, celery, potatoes and onions, Vicki is growing greens and tomatoes in her greenhouses as she works to keep the food coming almost all year round!
The Farm Genesis Growers is a 20-acre farm in St Anne, Illinois. The farm grows a wide range of crops such as kale, melons, potatoes and salad greens, emulating what our forebearers might have done to feed their families throughout the year. Owner Vicki Westerhoff started growing organically to heal herself of a serious illness and to help her Dad extend his life after being diagnosed with cancer and being given just months to live. Not only did she cure herself and help her Dad live an extra 7 years, but she also realized that the land with missing wildlife and other people around her needed to be more healthy too. She considers herself to be both a healer and steward of the land and as a result, of all of us too.
Farm Practices All farming at Genesis Growers is done organically without use of any chemicals or pesticides. Vicki focuses on all the aspects that are important to keep a farm sustainable. This means rotation of crops to maintain the health of the soil, cover cropping to build up organic matter, composting to give the soil its nutrition and various organic insect management practices. Vicki explains that in organic farming, you need to grow enough different varieties of crops so you can go with the flow of Mother Nature, losing some crops each .
