American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine's master's degree program in acupuncture and Oriental medicine (MAOM) involves over 3,000 curriculum hours. If you're interested in pursuing the MAOM degree, you must first meet certain prerequisites, including completion of a minimum of 60 semester credits or bachelor-degree level education. In this course, students will engage comprehensive studies in TCM theory, diagnostics and pathology, Chinese culture, anatomy and physiology, Western medical terminology, Tai Chi, microbiology, dietary therapy, Qi gong, clinical Chinese herbology and herbal formulas, various acupuncture techniques, Chinese medical terminology, medical Tuina, Western pharmacology, and practical management, in addition to many more relevant subjects of study. The MAOM program is typically completed in four years; however, students desiring part-time studies may achieve this course in eight years' time.
If massage therapy interests you, high school graduates may enroll in the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Chinese Tuina Certificate program. This Chinese medical massage program is comprised of 600-clock hours and involves in-depth studies in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory, pathology and diagnostics, anatomy and physiology, meridians and points, Tuina techniques, and clinical practice. Successful students who have completed all required coursework are awarded a certificate of completion.
